Be a Time Warrior

What do issues with time, food and money all have in common? Boundaries! It’s common for someone who struggles with them also to have a hard time setting boundaries.

When it comes to time, you may hear people saying, “I’m swamped. I don’t have time. I’m busy. I’m overwhelmed.” This is just habitual thinking and is an unconscious way of framing our anxiety and procrastination. In Steve Chandler’s new book, The Time Warrior, he shows us how we can eliminate all the drama and victim thinking around time by choosing to focus on one thing right now. Steve remind us, “Focus is vital. Uninterrupted time is the portal through which we now succeed. One hour of focused time is much more valuable than two hours of interrupted time.”

* Practice choosing one important task for one hour and say “no” to all distractions. Focus and make it the one and only priority. No multitasking. If one hour seems too overwhelming, break it down to smaller segments. Start with five minutes.

* When an interruption comes; a phone call, an email beep, someone walks in your office, practice saying “No, not right now.”

* Instead of worrying, getting overwhelmed, stressing – remind yourself, “All I have is the present moment, right now. What do I want to do with it? How do I want to be?”

* Be conscious with your language – I choose, I am, I enjoy, I create. Apply this language to one task at a time, and give it your FULL attention.

It just takes practice keeping boundaries with yourself and your priorities. You’ll have greater self-respect and confidence when you complete tasks and move forward. It’s amazing what you can accomplish by just starting, committing – even small amounts of time!
